Good Old Girls Quiz

You’ve heard the terms Good Old Boys and the Old Boy Network but do you know about Good Old Girls - GOGs for short?  Maybe you are a GOG and don’t even know it.

Answer the following questions and you’ll be off to a good start in discovering whether you qualify as a GOG. Be honest with your answers; if you really are a GOG, you have low tolerance for liars.  Besides, most GOGs have an amazing ability to get to the bottom of things, ferret out lies, and tell you a thing or two – all while doing five other things.

Now see how you did

Q. 1. Give yourself 2 points if you chose B as the correct answer and 0 points if you chose any other letter.

Nancy Sinatra made this song a memorable hit in 196  during the era of go-go boots and hot pants.  While most of us wouldn’t dream of wearing those things now, a lot of us at least envisioned ourselves wearing them 40+ years ago.

Q. 2.  Give yourself 2 points if you chose C as the correct answer and 0 points if you chose any other letter.

Nixon resigned in 1973; Marilyn Monroe died in 1962; and 18 year-olds first were able to vote in 1972.  You probably remember all those things, but the summer of 1969 was a history lesson unto itself.  Besides the first moon walk, it also was the summer of Woodstock, the Charles Manson/Tate-LaBianca murders, and the time when Ted Kennedy drove off a bridge in Chappaquidik.

Q. 3.  Give yourself 2 points if you chose A as the correct answer and 0 points if you chose any other letter.

Spoolies were small, rubber hair rollers that, when unfolded, looked like a martini glass with holes in it.  They held only small amounts of hair, and if the hair was damp, it took forever to dry, and they created pin-curl looking tresses.  Still, they were a lot more comfy than prickly brush rollers.

Q. 4.  Give yourself 2 points if you chose D, 1 point if you chose C, and no points if you chose A or B.

Face it, at our age we aren’t likely to have the shapes we did in our 20s.  Still, we like looking nice, so if elastic waists and sensible shoes can be made to lok nice, we’ll all about comfort.  It’s always easy to hide elastic waistbands under a T, a jacket, or a tasteful belt.  And unlike “old lady shoes” that our grandmas wore, we can find comfort and style in many shoes today.

Q 5.  Give yourself 2 points if you chose D and 0 points if you chose any other letter.

Perhaps there are photos of Jackie Kennedy in saddle shoes or mink stoles, but in her role as first lady, she turned what could have been a fabric covered powder box into an attractive hat.  Of course those were the days when properly dressed women wore hats.

Q 6  Give yourself 2 points if you chose B and 0 points if you chose any other letter.

Who can forget seeing the fab four for the first time on Ed Sullivan with all the screaming teen girls in the audience?  Sure, we watched American Bandstand, Ted Mack, and Gunsmoke, but our parents watched Ed Sullivan, and since they most likely didn’t like the Beatles, we youngsters were almost bound to find them appealing.

Q 7  Give yourself 2 points if you chose A, 1 if you chose C and 0 points if you chose B or D.

It’s OK to splurge on yourself once in awhile (even if you spent more than $5.00 on a single pair), but most of the time GOGs tend to be practical and rather frugal.  If you go commando you are not a GOG, and if you have the same underwear that you’ve had since college, you either often go commando, or you are too frugal to be a genuine GOG.

Q 8.  Give yourself 2 points if you chose A, 0 if you chose C, and take away 2 points if you chose B or D.

Ladies, we know that men may have the upper hand a lot of the time, but come on, we’re creative, clever, and probably know how to do what they do even better than they know themselves.  Complaining, eating our frustrations away, or giving up only beget misery; but proving ourselves leads to good things, even if it is only for ourselves.

Q. 9  Give yourself 2 points if you chose C, take away 1 point if you chose any other letter.

Why would we want to be like Jessica Simpson or Pamela Anderson?  We are real women, not some surgically altered, dim-witted bimbos who have to worry about every bite they take, whether they have a blemish, or if their admiring public still notices them.  Be proud of who you are, what you’ve accomplished, and what you still have left to offer.

Q 10  Give yourself 2 points if you chose D, 0 points if you chose B or C, and take away 1 point if you chose A.

Just because we’re mature doesn’t mean we look like old hags.  There are men out there who prefer a pulled-together, real woman who knows who she is and isn’t afraid to be herself.  If you think everyone is only looking at younger women, you need to pay closer attention.  Maybe you are the one being noticed

What your score means:

If your score is 16 – 20, you are definitely a Good Old Girl.  Welcome to our website, and come back often because you are the very women this site is meant for.  We’d love to hear from you because you probably have great ideas.

If your score is 10 – 15, you may be a Good Old Girl, but you are either a little younger than some of us or you are not convinced of your worth.  Don’t give up, you probably just need some encouragement.  And you’ll find plenty of that on this website.  Once you find out what other GOGs are thinking and doing, you will probably find yourself feeling right at home.

If your score is 9 or less, you probably are not a Good Old Girl.  If you think you may be but your score doesn’t suggest it, stick around and read more.  You may in fact just be on the verge of GOGgess-hood.  But if you find that you can’t relate to much of this at all, then this probably is not the site for you.
